Former military chiefs have asked Jonathan to declare a total war on Boko Haram. This sentiment is also echoed by Nigerian-born U.S. Army Captain, Sunday Adebomi, who has said 'gentility' is no way to combat the Boko Haram crises.

In two separate stories carried by Vanguard and PUNCH, the military seems to agree that the time of trying to reason with Boko Haram is past, and it is now time to go fully armed against the terrorists.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has granted a two-day extension of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in all states under the third phase of the exercise except Adamawa.

This information was contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by the Press Secretary to the commission's chairman, Mr. Kayode Idowu. 

Idowu said that in effect, the CVR that commenced on Wednesday, November 12th and was scheduled to end on Monday, November 17th, 2014, will now last until Wednesday, November 19th, 2014.

The states affected are Kano, Edo, Plateau, Ogun, Imo and Lagos.

The Chairman of INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega, approved the extension to make up for initial challenges in the exercise and to enable as many eligible persons as possible to get registered to vote.

Prince Tonye Princewill, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has stated that the party will lose most of it's governorship aspirants and Rivers state if all candidates were not giving a level playing field. 

A statement issued by Wabiye Idoniboye-Obu, Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity to Princewill, read, "The congress had already been done. The panel had already been settled and the electoral umpire had already been compromised. All their planning was in vain. For them the congress was just an opportunity for the masses to fight and destroy things. They do not care if Rivers people die as long as they win. We do. We care; and that’s why we stayed clear.”

"The Rivers State Wike led PDP Exco, don’t realize we are several steps ahead of them; none of the key aspirants were involved in the congresses. That should be a signal for the party. Our silence will speak louder than our ... Read more »

Muhammadau Buhari, former military head of state and presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress,APC has opened up on the 1985 coup and why he didn't try to stop General Ibrahim Babaginda despite being fully aware of his role. 

In an exclusive interview with THE CABLE, Buhari said, "It is true that I learnt he was planning a coup against me. And I sat and discussed it with him in my office.

"He brought the news that he went to Kano and people complained that I pulled a pistol during a council meeting. I said Ibro ? I called him Ibro because I was just senior to him by a few months ? I said whoever wants to sit on this chair let him come and sit here. And he decided to do it.
