Yesterday, the House of Representatives Committee on Electoral Matters has postponed their meeting with the INEC over the ill-health of the INEC chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega. 

The House Committee, led by Jerry Manwe nad invited INEC, along with other stakeholders to discuss the preparedness of Nigeria for the 2015 general elections. 

“The chairman (Manwe) has just directed me to convey the inability of the INEC chairman to come for the meeting tomorrow (Friday) as a result of ill-health.

“Accordingly, the meeting of tomorrow (yesterday) will not hold. A new date will be communicated please. All inconveniences are regretted,” a statement by the acting clerk of the National Assembly, Mr Oscar Okoro read.

The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, on Friday, says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is the only party that has the interest of Nigerian women.

The first lady, who made the remark at the PDP Presidential Campaign Rally in Enugu, thanked the Igbo people for casting their votes for President Goodluck Jonathan in 2011.

She enjoined women to vote for Jonathan for the second term because he would further uplift their status and presence in government.

She added that ''PDP is the only party that has the interests of women at heart.

''Women should vote for a president who gave us 35 per cent affirmative action and the opportunity to be heard.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday said it would not indulge in cheap campaign propaganda ahead of the February general elections.

The Director-General of the party's Presidential Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, said this at a news conference in Abuja.

Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, re-emphasised that the party would rather base its campaign on ideas and issues.

He said that ideas and issues were important to Nigerians, while showcasing its verifiable achievements across the country to the electorate.

He said that the party, in the course of its electioneering, would raise fundamental questions on the personalities of party flag bearers, especially that of the opposition APC.

Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano state on Wednesday said that supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan are scared of campaigning in the state because of the President's gross incompetence and failure; DAILY POST reports. 

Addressing a delegation from Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of the state at the Government House , Kwankwaso said, ''It is clear that Jonathan’s men in Kano are afraid to campaign for him because they have nothing to show. We have been saying that this regime is a total failure and a disaster for Nigeria. This is why, despite our ties with the PDP, we decided to abandon the party for the APC.

Speaking at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, President Jonathan has stated that the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) tried to assassinate him in the October 1, 2010 bombing in Eagle Square, Abuja. 

He said this in reaction to the group's recent endorsement of his opponent for the February elections, General Muhammadu Buhari. 

The October 1, 2010 bombing resulted in 12 deaths and 17 injuries.

“I saw a headline in one of the newspapers, saying MEND dumps Jonathan, did you see it?” he asked.
