Transparency International's , Corruption Perception Index 2014 seems to suggest that corruption in Nigeria is on the decrease.

According to Transparency International, Nigeria is the 39th most corrupt nation among the 175 countries on the index. In 2013, Nigeria was ranked the 30th most corrupt nation out of 175 countries surveyed.

In this year's corruption index, Nigeria was ranked 136 out of 175 countries surveyed. Nigeria was ranked 144 in 2013.

The 2014 index also scored Nigeria 27, which is higher than the 25 the country scored in 2013.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba refused to recognize Mr. Aminu Tambuwal as speaker of the House of Representatives. 

Abba simply addressed Mr. Tambuwal as "Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal," a title that offended members of the House Committee on Police Affairs. 

Abba said that it would be 'subjudice' for him to address Tambuwal as speaker for as long as the matter was in court.

Chairman of the House committee, Mr. Usman Bello-Kurmo, asked him a direct question, “Is Aminu Waziri-Tambuwal the Speaker of the House of Representatives or not?”

Nigeria's Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke has been elected first female president of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC.)

She was elected on Thursday at the body's ongoing 166th General Meeting in Vienna Austria. 

She replaced the former president, Libyan Vice Prime Minister for Corporations, Adourhman Atahar Al-Ahirish.

The Nigerian Senate on Thursday dismissed a scathing attack by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, saying he merely sought to disrespect the National Assembly by accusing its members of extensive corruption, According to Premium Times.

Obasanjo had in a furious outburst Wednesday, accused members of the Senate and House of Representatives of stealing constituency funds, and extorting government officials they supervise through blackmail and intimidation.

According to spokesperson for the Senate, Enyinnaya Abaribe, "the allegation as spurious as it were. Its very distant from the truth and is nowhere near reality."
