Former military chiefs have asked Jonathan to declare a total war on Boko Haram. This sentiment is also echoed by Nigerian-born U.S. Army Captain, Sunday Adebomi, who has said 'gentility' is no way to combat the Boko Haram crises.

In two separate stories carried by Vanguard and PUNCH, the military seems to agree that the time of trying to reason with Boko Haram is past, and it is now time to go fully armed against the terrorists.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has granted a two-day extension of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in all states under the third phase of the exercise except Adamawa.

This information was contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by the Press Secretary to the commission's chairman, Mr. Kayode Idowu. 

Idowu said that in effect, the CVR that commenced on Wednesday, November 12th and was scheduled to end on Monday, November 17th, 2014, will now last until Wednesday, November 19th, 2014.

The states affected are Kano, Edo, Plateau, Ogun, Imo and Lagos.

The Chairman of INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega, approved the extension to make up for initial challenges in the exercise and to enable as many eligible persons as possible to get registered to vote.

Sixteen gubernatorial aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP in Rivers state have boycotted the party's local and ward congresses in the state on Saturday.

A statement issued in Port Harcourt by the aspirants' spokesperson, Sotonye Ijuye-Dagogo, said that the party "breached the party's procedures leading to the delegates' ward congress". 

The aspirants are Beks Dagogo-Jack, Dumo Lulu-Briggs, Maj. Lancelot Anyanya (Rtd), Sampson Ngerebara, Nimi Walson-Jack, Sen. Lee Maeba, Gabriel Pidomson and Dr Silva Opusunju.

Others are Bernard Mikko, Chief Pawariso Horsfall, Oseleye Ojuka, Tonye Princewill, Capt. Nwankwo Sunday (Rtd), Prof. Don Baridam, Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja and Abie Abbey-Hart.
